NSU hosts launch of Bangladeshi alumni association of China’s Yunnan universities
North South University hosted the official launch of the Association of Bangladeshi Alumni of China (Yunnan) on 22 April 2026 at Auditorium 801, bringing together academics, diplomats, and alumni to strengthen educational and cultural ties between Bangladesh and China.
The event marked a significant step in deepening institutional and people-to-people connections, particularly with China’s Yunnan province, a key regional hub linking South and Southeast Asia.
The opening session featured remarks from Dr Kabir Md Alamgir, representing the Bangladeshi alumni community, alongside Prof He Yongwen, Vice President of Kunming Medical University, and Prof Ma Wenhui, President of Yunnan University.
The ceremony was also attended by Yao Wen, Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to Bangladesh, and Humayun Kabir, Foreign Affairs Advisor to the Prime Minister. Vice-Chancellor of NSU, Abdul Hannan Chowdhury, addressed the gathering as host representative.
In addition to the primary launch, the ceremony also marked the formation of two affiliated bodies: the Yunnan University Alumni Association in Bangladesh and the Kunming Medical University Alumni Association in Bangladesh. Appointment letters were formally handed over to members of the founding councils.
A cultural performance by Confucius Institutes in Bangladesh added an artistic dimension to the programme, followed by an experience-sharing session where Bangladeshi alumni of Yunnan institutions reflected on their academic journeys.
The event highlighted the growing importance of educational exchange in Bangladesh–China relations. Yunnan province, due to its geographic and strategic position, has increasingly become a focal point for regional academic collaboration.
By hosting the event, North South University reinforced its role as a platform for international academic engagement and cross-border collaboration.
