Bangladesh Youth Leadership Center (BYLC) brought together around 1,500 participants in Dhaka for its annual Running with Purpose 2026 on 24 April 2026, rallying youth under the theme “Healthy Youth, Stronger Nation.”

The citywide event aimed to promote physical well-being while raising awareness about environmental challenges, particularly air pollution. By combining fitness with advocacy, the initiative highlighted the role of young people as catalysts for national change, aligning with global sustainability goals.

For the first time, the event featured two race categories, 7.5 km and 15 km, allowing participants of varying fitness levels to take part. Students, professionals, and community leaders joined the run, reflecting a shared commitment to health, sustainability, and active citizenship.

The event was attended by Bobby Hajjaj, State Minister for Primary and Mass Education, and Joris van Bommel, Ambassador of the Kingdom of the Netherlands to Bangladesh.

Commending the initiative, Bobby Hajjaj said it plays an important role in promoting both mental and physical fitness among youth, whom he described as key drivers of change in Bangladesh. Ambassador van Bommel highlighted the discipline demonstrated by participants, noting that such commitment reflects the mindset needed to drive the country forward.

Reflecting on the journey of the initiative, Ejaj Ahmad, Founder and Executive Chairperson of BYLC, said the organisation has been working since 2018 to build a generation of not only capable but also physically and mentally fit youth. Tahsinah Ahmed, Executive Director of BYLC, added that the event represents a broader message that young people in Bangladesh are ready to lead with discipline and purpose.

The programme was supported by the Ministry of Youth and Sports and the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands. Several private sector partners contributed to the event, including Indulge, FUEL, Praava Health, Elite Force, Jamuna TV, The Business Standard, Upsight Bangladesh, and Igloo.

The event concluded with a medal ceremony for participants who completed the race within the designated cut-off time.

Founded in 2009, BYLC is the country’s first leadership institute, having trained over 10,000 young people through programmes that bring together students from diverse educational backgrounds. Its alumni now hold roles across the public, private, and civil sectors, contributing to leadership development and nation-building initiatives.
