THE Seminar

Md Sabur Khan represented Bangladesh as a session speaker at the Global Sustainable Development Congress (GSDC) 2026 in Jakarta, Indonesia, where he spoke on the role of South Asian higher education institutions in advancing the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

The session, titled “Driving Change: How South Asian Higher Education Powers the SDGs,” brought together academic leaders to discuss how universities can address regional development challenges through education, research, and collaboration.

In his remarks, Dr. Khan highlighted key challenges facing South Asia, including youth employability, climate resilience, and equitable access to quality education. He emphasised that universities play a central role in preparing future-ready graduates and fostering entrepreneurship, innovation, and research that supports sustainable development.

He also noted that meaningful progress toward the SDGs requires institutional commitment, visionary leadership, and cross-sector partnerships. According to him, embedding sustainability into teaching, research, campus operations, and community engagement can significantly enhance the societal impact of universities.

Dr. Khan further shared experiences from Daffodil International University (DIU), particularly its work aligned with SDG 4 (Quality Education) and SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals), including initiatives in entrepreneurship development, digital innovation, and international collaboration.

The session served as a platform for exchanging perspectives on how higher education institutions can contribute more effectively to sustainable and inclusive development across the region.
