Buft Cineframe Fest 2026 concludes with awards for student filmmakers
The three-day Buft Cineframe Fest 2026 concluded on 9 July with an awards ceremony at BGMEA University of Fashion & Technology (Buft), celebrating student filmmaking and contemporary Bangladeshi cinema.
Organised by the Buft Photography Club and presented by Giant Group and Education Hub, the festival featured film screenings and a short film competition. The event began on 7 July.
Faruque Hassan, chairman of the Buft Board of Trustees, attended the closing ceremony as the chief guest, while Sharmin Hassan Tithi, director of Giant Group, was present as the special guest. The programme was also attended by Professor Dr Engr Ayub Nabi Khan, vice-chancellor (designate) of Buft.
Among the distinguished guests were actress Runa Khan, actress Sadia Islam Mou, actor Mir Sabbir and several film directors.
Speeches were delivered by Mohammad Imtiaj, director of the Public Relations Department, and Professor Dr Md Waliul Alam, director of Student Welfare. Faculty members, university officials and students also attended the ceremony.
The festival featured screenings of several Bangladeshi films, including Bonolota Express, Utsab and The University of Chankharpul. A total of 28 student-produced short films were also screened during the festival.
The winning entries, selected by a jury panel, were recognised at the closing ceremony, where awards were presented to the best student filmmakers.
