Bangladesh International Tutorial (BIT) has introduced the Anwara Islam Scholarship, a fully funded two-year A Level scholarship for outstanding female students, with the aim of recognising academic excellence and supporting girls’ access to internationally recognised education.

The scholarship will be awarded annually to one female student and covers 100 per cent of tuition fees as well as admission fees throughout the two-year A Level programme.

According to BIT, applicants must demonstrate exceptional academic achievement in their O Level examinations, including outstanding grades across at least nine subjects. Candidates will be selected through a merit-based process that also considers leadership qualities and contributions beyond the classroom.

The school said the scholarship is intended not only to provide financial support but also to recognise exceptional academic talent and encourage more young women to pursue higher education and future leadership opportunities.

Named after Anwara Islam, the scholarship honours her longstanding commitment to girls’ education. BIT said her belief in the transformative power of education inspired her daughter, Lubna Choudhury, to establish Bangladesh International Tutorial in 1983. The school added that Anwara Islam’s legacy continues through the women who lead the institution today.

The scholarship has been introduced by Anika Rahman, a board director of BIT, who will personally fund the award. Rahman, the daughter of BIT founder Lubna Choudhury and granddaughter of Anwara Islam, said the initiative is intended to preserve her grandmother’s legacy by supporting academically outstanding young women with the potential to become future leaders.

BIT noted that while some English-medium schools offer partial tuition waivers or academic discounts, a fully funded A Level scholarship dedicated exclusively to female students remains uncommon in Bangladesh.

The school said supporting talented students at the A Level stage can help prepare them for admission to leading universities in the United Kingdom, North America, Australia and Asia while encouraging academic excellence within Bangladesh.

The inaugural recipient of the Anwara Islam Scholarship is expected to be announced in October 2026.
