City Bank PLC organised a career guidance programme titled ‘Spotlight’ at Bangladesh Agricultural University (BAU) on Wednesday (August 12), aiming to provide students with insights into the challenges and opportunities in the corporate world.

The programme was held at the Syed Nazrul Islam Conference Hall under the supervision of the university’s Institute of Agribusiness and Development Studies (IADS).

BAU Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr A.K. Fazlul Haque Bhuiyan attended the event as the chief guest. Student Affairs Adviser Professor Dr Muhammad Shahidul Haque, Coordinator of the Higher Education and Research Committee Professor Dr Md Shamsul Alam, Director of BAURES Professor Dr M Hammadur Rahman, and President of the Bangladesh Agricultural Economists Association and Director and CEO of Spectra Hexa Feeds Ltd Mohammad Ahsanuzzaman Lintu attended as special guests.

Faculty members from various departments, university officials and staff, as well as representatives from different levels of City Bank, were also present. Around 250 students from multiple faculties participated in the programme. Professor Dr Sadika Haque, Director of IADS, presided over the event.

The highlight of the programme was the ‘Spotlight Keynote Session’, conducted by Mohammad Mahmud Gani, Deputy Managing Director of City Bank PLC and Head of Corporate and Institutional Banking.

In his keynote address, he discussed the challenges and opportunities in the contemporary corporate sector, the essential skills required by students, and key aspects of building a successful professional career. The session was followed by an interactive question-and-answer segment, where students engaged directly on various career-related topics.

Addressing the event as chief guest, Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr A.K. Fazlul Haque Bhuiyan emphasised that students should focus not only on academic studies but also on essential life skills, particularly time management.

“Time management is one of the most crucial skills in life. There is no alternative to hard work for achieving success. The combination of talent and dedication is the true pathway to accomplishment,” he said.

He further highlighted the importance of good behaviour, appropriate body language, effective communication skills and adaptability in different situations.

“These qualities are essential for students to build strong professional relationships and achieve long-term career success,” he added.
