The NILS AIUB Chapter organised a seminar on 3 August to equip students with practical skills and techniques for writing professional newspaper articles.

Titled “Basics of Newspaper Article Writing”, the seminar focused on the essential principles of effective newspaper writing and their relevance to students’ research, analytical and communication skills.

AIUB Department of Law Lecturer and NILS AIUB Chapter Advisor Md Muhtasim Faiaz delivered the opening address.

He highlighted the importance of co-curricular activities and the chapter’s commitment to developing students’ practical skills.

Faiaz also discussed how effective newspaper writing could strengthen law students’ research, analytical and communication abilities.

H M Nazmul Alam, lecturer in the Department of English and Modern Languages at the International University of Business Agriculture and Technology (IUBAT) and former assistant editor of The Daily Ittefaq, delivered the keynote address.

Drawing on his professional experience, he discussed practical writing techniques, industry insights and the core principles of newspaper article writing.

The session sought to give students a comprehensive understanding of how professional newspaper articles are planned, structured and written.

The seminar also featured an interactive discussion and question-and-answer session, during which participants engaged with the keynote speaker.

The event was jointly organised by Dr Robayet Ferdous Syed, department head of the Department of Law at AIUB; Rostoma Begum Chaudhury, assistant professor in the Department of Law and advisor to the NILS AIUB Chapter; and Md Jahedul Islam, lecturer in the Department of Law at AIUB.

Md Jahedul Islam delivered the closing remarks and thanked the keynote speaker and participants for their contributions and active engagement throughout the session.

The NILS AIUB Chapter reaffirmed its commitment to organising further academic, co-curricular and skill-development initiatives to help students strengthen their practical knowledge, communication skills and professional competencies.
