State University of Bangladesh (SUB) has welcomed the first batch of students enrolled in its BSc in Microbiology (Honours) programme.

The Department of Microbiology held the orientation programme today, 24 August, providing students with guidance on their academic journey and university life, according to a press release.

Department of Microbiology Chairman Professor Dr Md Mahfuzul Hoque delivered the opening address.

He congratulated the inaugural batch and encouraged the students to prepare for their future by developing knowledge, skills and strong ethical values.

School of Pharmaceutical Sciences Dean Professor Md Saiful Islam Pathan welcomed the new students and wished them a successful academic journey.

SUB Registrar Dr Ahmed Hossain briefed the students on the university’s code of conduct, disciplinary requirements and institutional rules.

SUB Proctor Shah Reza M Fahad Hossain also discussed responsible behaviour, university regulations and the students’ responsibilities as members of the academic community.

University of Dhaka Professor Dr Anisur Rahman attended the programme as special guest.

He encouraged the students to remain focused on their studies and emphasised knowledge acquisition, research orientation and continuous learning in higher education.

SUB Acting Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Md Hassan Kawsar attended as chief guest.

He urged the students to pursue academic excellence, develop professional skills and make full use of the opportunities available during university life.

University of Dhaka Department of Pharmaceutical Chemistry Emeritus Professor Professor Dr Md Abdur Rashid presided over the programme.

He encouraged the students to acquire the knowledge, skills and experience required to build successful careers.

Speaking on behalf of the inaugural batch, a student said microbiology could create opportunities in biology, healthcare and research.

“We aspire to move forward with dedication, hard work and integrity, become competent microbiologists, and contribute to the wellbeing of our country and its people,” the student said.

The SUB Culture Club organised a cultural programme for the newly admitted students.

Teachers, officials and students from the Department of Microbiology attended the orientation.
