Jahangirnagar University Research Society (JURS) will host its first international conference on interdisciplinary research for sustainability, innovation and global challenges on Saturday, 29 August, at Jahangirnagar University in Savar, Dhaka.

Titled JICIRSIGC 2026 and themed ‘From Discovery to Impact: Interdisciplinary Research for Sustainable Futures’, the one-day hybrid conference will bring together researchers, academics, students, policymakers, industry practitioners and research enthusiasts from Bangladesh and abroad.

The conference is expected to draw around 265 participants and will feature oral and poster presentations, national and international speakers, four thematic research tracks and a Best Paper Award.

The research tracks will cover areas including governance and development, democracy and social inclusion, artificial intelligence and data science, public health and epidemiology, biotechnology and drug research, environment and climate, sustainability policy, biodiversity conservation and the green economy.

Md Abu Rumman, President of JURS, said the conference aims to connect academic research with real-world solutions and promote sustainable societal change through collaboration across disciplines.

Among the keynote speakers and experts are Syed Moinuddin Satter, Associate Scientist and Project Coordinator at icddr,b; Professor Hafiz T. A. Khan of the College of Nursing, Midwifery and Healthcare in the UK; and Hironari Onishi, Team Leader at JICA, Japan.

Jahangirnagar University Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Mohammad Kamrul Ahsan said interdisciplinary research and sustainable development are essential for the country’s progress and highlighted the role of universities in developing innovative skills and advancing the Sustainable Development Goals.

Rayhan Kabir, General Secretary of JURS, said the conference would provide researchers from different disciplines with opportunities to exchange knowledge and ideas while building new academic and professional collaborations.

The organisers said the conference seeks to strengthen interdisciplinary research networks and promote research that can contribute to sustainable development and address local and global challenges.
