Md Ahsan Habib (Bipu) and Md Enamul Hasan Kawsar have been elected president and general secretary respectively of the Jagannath University Theatre Department Alumni Association.

The association elected its first biennial executive council for the 2026–28 term at the university’s Theatre Department on Friday (28 August), according to a press release.

Members based locally, elsewhere in Bangladesh and abroad participated through online and in-person voting, resulting in an 87% turnout.

During the first session, the association’s proposed constitution was presented before the alumni. It was approved unanimously following an open discussion, proposed amendments and clause-by-clause explanations.

The election commission announced the final results after completing the voting and counting.

Habib completed his undergraduate studies in theatre at Jagannath University and later earned a three-year postgraduate degree in performing arts from the University of Hyderabad in India. He also received a gold medal as the top student of his faculty.

Kawsar achieved the highest academic results at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels in Jagannath University’s Theatre Department.

The association expressed hope that the new leadership, comprising both younger and experienced alumni, would advance its academic and professional activities.

In a joint statement, the newly elected leaders thanked the association’s members, election commission and relevant subcommittees.

They pledged to strengthen ties among the Theatre Department’s alumni, support members’ professional development and work collectively for the department’s overall advancement.
