A team from the Bangladesh University of Professionals (BUP) has won the championship at the 1st SUBMCS-CSWC LexAI National Moot Court Competition 2026, while another BUP team secured two major memorial awards.

Team A, comprising Bayzid Toha, Md Nafis Iqbal and Abrar Shafee Rian, was crowned champion at the competition, jointly organised by the State University of Bangladesh Moot Court Society (SUBMCS) and CSWC – Cyber Support for Women and Children.

BUP’s Team B, comprising Shifat Rahman, Barirah Binte Hashem and Nishkatul Jannat Oishi, won the Best Memorial (Overall) and Best Respondent Memorial awards, according to a press release.

A total of 16 teams from universities across Bangladesh qualified for the oral rounds after their written memorials were evaluated. The shortlisted teams competed in the oral phase on 28 and 29 August.

The competition focused on contemporary legal issues involving artificial intelligence, cybersecurity and emerging cyber law. It provided law students with opportunities to strengthen their legal research, memorial drafting and oral advocacy skills while addressing legal challenges arising from rapid technological developments.

Organisers said the competition also sought to highlight emerging issues including algorithmic accountability, data protection, online harassment and cybercrime, as well as questions of online safety involving women and children.

The double achievement marks a notable success for BUP’s Department of Law, demonstrating the university’s strength in both oral advocacy and written legal analysis and adding to its record of performance in national legal competitions.
