BRAC University Multicultural Club (BUMC) organised “Beyond Borders: Roots and Rhythms – Celebrating Indigenous Roots” on 30 August 2026 at the university auditorium, bringing together students, faculty members, guests and members of diverse communities to celebrate Indigenous heritage and cultural diversity.

The event provided Indigenous students with a platform to represent their communities and share their traditions, while encouraging the wider university community to engage with Indigenous cultures through appreciation and respect, according to a press release.

The programme opened with an address by BUMC President Sania Zehra, followed by cultural performances representing Chakma, Marma and other Indigenous communities. The performances included Jum and Marma songs, Chakma and Marma dances, traditional musical pieces and collaborative performances.

Amrik Khisa, representing the Indigenous student community, spoke about Indigenous identity, heritage and cultural representation. Faculty members and distinguished guests also highlighted the importance of preserving traditions and creating inclusive spaces for cultural expression.

The second segment, “Rhythms”, featured Bengali and international music, contemporary dance, poetry and collaborative performances by students from across the university. The organisers said the transition from “Roots” to “Rhythms” reflected the event’s message that diverse cultures can come together through mutual respect and appreciation.

The programme also featured discussions on cultural preservation, representation, inclusivity, belonging and respect. The event concluded with closing remarks and a vote of thanks from the BUMC panel, followed by a group photograph and closing music.

The event was organised as part of BRAC University’s 25th anniversary celebrations.
