The Department of Law at State University of Bangladesh (SUB) has launched a four-day Law Fest 2026 featuring academic, co-curricular and cultural activities under the theme “Think Law; Live Justice”.

The festival began on 5 September and will continue until 8 September, aiming to enhance students’ legal knowledge, practical skills and understanding of justice, citizens’ rights and social responsibility, according to a press release.

Advisor to the Department of Law at SUB Professor Dr Asif Nazrul formally inaugurated the festival on 5 September.

Acting Vice-Chancellor of SUB Professor Dr Md Hasan Kawsar attended the inaugural ceremony as the chief guest, while Chairman of the Department of Law Jinat Amin Shipa presided over the event.

The university’s registrar, faculty members of the Department of Law, students and other guests also attended.

Professor Dr Asif Nazrul said law was not confined to textbooks or courtrooms, as legal knowledge and awareness were fundamental to building a just and conscious society.

He emphasised the importance of giving students opportunities to understand the practical application of law, the values of justice and their responsibilities as citizens alongside their academic education.

He expressed hope that the festival would help develop students’ leadership, critical reasoning, ethical values and sense of social responsibility while encouraging them to explore the broader dimensions of legal practice.

Professor Dr Md Hasan Kawsar said a university was not merely a place for acquiring knowledge but also an institution for nurturing responsible and just citizens.

He said law students could take leadership roles in the judiciary, administration, corporate sector and other professional fields in the future.

He stressed the need to develop a balance of legal knowledge, a sense of justice, critical thinking and human values among students.

He added that the theme “Think Law; Live Justice” conveyed the importance of connecting academic learning with the practice of law and justice in everyday life.

Jinat Amin Shipa said the festival had been organised to make classroom learning more engaging, practical and meaningful.

She said its activities would help students develop their intellectual abilities, creativity, reasoning, leadership and teamwork while deepening their understanding of law and justice.

She also thanked the faculty members, students and others involved in organising the festival.

The programme includes a friendly debate, picnic, sports, wall magazine, exhibition, quiz competition, moot court and cultural performances.

A special awareness session titled “Cyber Law Awareness: Citizen Rights, Response and Digital Safety” will be held on 7 September for students from nearby colleges.

The session will focus on cyber law, citizens’ rights, responsible online behaviour, cybersecurity and digital safety. A quiz will also assess and enhance participants’ knowledge of these issues.

The festival will conclude on 8 September with a cultural programme and an award ceremony.
