Bangladesh-Germany co-production short film Subal, directed by Bangladeshi filmmaker Nahid Hasan, has been selected for the International Short Film Competition at the 24th Amur Autumn International Film and Theatre Festival in Blagoveshchensk, Russia.

Following its world premiere at the Bengaluru International Short Film Festival 2026, the 15-minute film will have its Russian premiere at the festival, which will run from 13 to 19 September 2026.

Written, directed, edited and produced by Nahid Hasan, Subal follows a Baul folk singer whose life is disrupted by an unforeseen event. The film explores displacement, memory, belonging, identity and resilience in contemporary Bangladesh.

The project is a Bangladesh-Germany co-production made in association with Mogador Film. German producer Christoph Thoke serves as co-producer, while Yannic Thoke is the associate producer.

“I’m deeply honoured that Subal will continue its journey at the Amur Autumn International Film and Theatre Festival,” Nahid Hasan said. “It means a great deal to bring the film to Russian audiences, and I hope its story resonates across cultures and borders.”

Founded in 2003, the Amur Autumn International Film and Theatre Festival features films, theatre productions, exhibitions and other cultural programmes, bringing together artists and juries from Russia, Asia and beyond.
