BUP Film Club concluded the 2026 edition of BUP Film Fest on 28 September, bringing together aspiring filmmakers, ad makers, writers and cinephiles from across Bangladesh for two days of cinema and creative exchange at Bangladesh University of Professionals (BUP).

Held under the theme “Bonolota Express” as part of MCJ Carnival 2026, organised by the Department of Mass Communication and Journalism (MCJ), the festival was one of three major events alongside MediaComm Summit 2.0 by BUP Media & Communication Club and Sfuron 6.0 by BUP Photography Society.

The festival received more than 40 short films, 20 documentaries, 50 ad-making projects and 25 scripts, while 30 performers took part in the Cosplay segment and 110 participants joined the Cine Quiz.

The opening day featured an inaugural session attended by Brigadier General Mohammad Aksar Khan, ndc, psc, PhD, Dean of the Faculty of Security and Strategic Studies, BUP, and Lieutenant Colonel Mahmud Hasan Tariq, PPM, PPMS, psc, Chairman of the Department of Mass Communication and Journalism, BUP.

The day’s programme included a visual storytelling seminar, a screening of BUP Film Club’s in-house production “Boithok”, screenings of the top 15 short films, top 10 documentaries and top 18 advertisements, along with the Cine Quiz and Cosplay showcase.

The second day began with a screenwriting masterclass conducted by screenwriter Samiul Bhuiyan, followed by remarks from BUP Film Club Moderator Ibrahim Azad and an address by the Dean at the Shadhinota Auditorium.

Reflecting on the festival, BUP Film Club President Shama Sultana said, “BUP Film Fest is one of the most prominent film festivals in our country. This year, we wanted to celebrate Bangladeshi cinema and its filmmakers.”

BUP Film Club General Secretary Shoumitro Golder said the festival was part of a wider effort to create opportunities for young people in the creative field. “MCJ Carnival 2026 is a collective effort to bring together talented individuals and provide them with a platform to showcase their creativity, knowledge and passion for film and media,” he said.

The winning entries in the Short Film and Ad Making segments were screened ahead of the closing and award ceremony.

In the awards, “Of the Record” won the Short Film segment, with “Koli” named 1st Runner-up and “Mortal” receiving the Critics’ Award. “Silent Verdict” won Documentary, followed by “Deen – Story of an Undertaker” as 1st Runner-up and “After One Leg” receiving the Critics’ Award.

Mershad Karim’s “Way Back Home” won Script Writing, with “Porir Deshe” named 1st Runner-up and “নাটাই সুতো” receiving the Critics’ Award.

Maisha Mustari Maliha won the Cine Quiz, while Ahnaf Uddin Orko was named 1st Runner-up and Md Mastafijur Rahman received the Critics’ Award. Akira won the Cosplay segment, with Fahim Alam as 1st Runner-up and Khusnud Mahjabin receiving the Critics’ Award.

In Ad Making, “Muhurto Rekha” won Champion, Team Cosmos was named 1st Runner-up and Montage Films received the Critics’ Award.

Supported by OPPO, Bangladesh Machine Tools Factory (BMTF) and Foodie, BUP Film Fest 2026 concluded by bringing together emerging filmmakers, storytellers and cinema enthusiasts, giving them a platform to showcase their work and connect with Bangladesh’s growing creative community.
