International University of Business Agriculture and Technology (IUBAT) has reported a joint second position among Bangladeshi universities in the Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings 2027, placing in the 1001–1200 global band.

The UK-based higher education publication released the rankings yesterday (30 September), assessing 2,297 universities from 118 countries, according to the press release.

IUBAT said the other institutions sharing the joint second position in Bangladesh were Bangladesh Agricultural University, Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology, BRAC University, Gazipur Agricultural University, Jashore University of Science and Technology, the University of Dhaka and the University of Rajshahi.

The rankings assess universities across five core pillars: teaching, research environment, research quality, international outlook and industry engagement. The assessment also considers citations, student-to-staff ratios and the proportion of international students.

IUBAT said its placement reflected steady progress in academic quality, research activity and global engagement. It attributed the achievement to its emphasis on applied education, international collaboration, research and community engagement.

IUBAT Treasurer Professor Selina Nargis said, “Being ranked joint second in Bangladesh in the Times Higher Education World University Rankings is a recognition of the tireless hard work and dedication of every member of the IUBAT family. This success comes from the collective efforts of our faculty, students, staff, and alumni.”

She said the university had prioritised quality education, applied research and international collaboration since its founding, describing IUBAT as the country’s first private university.

“This global recognition shows that we are on the right path. In the coming days, we will continue working to expand our research, strengthen our links with industry, and prepare our students to be globally competent. Our goal is to take IUBAT to even greater heights as a world-class institution,” she said.

The university authorities thanked faculty members, students, staff, alumni and everyone involved in the achievement. They also reaffirmed their commitment to academic excellence, innovation and building a world-class institution.

Founded in 1991 by Professor Dr M Alimullah Miyan, IUBAT describes itself as Bangladesh’s first private university.

Located on a green campus in Uttara, Dhaka, it offers undergraduate and postgraduate programmes in business administration, agriculture, engineering, computer science, nursing and other disciplines.

The university said its mission was to produce skilled, ethical and globally competent graduates.
