Sust student Mohammad Siam wins gold at World Sustainability Goals Challenge 2026
Mohammad Siam, a student of the Department of Business Administration at Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (SUST), has won the Gold Award in the Environmental Science and Sustainability segment at the World Sustainability Goals Challenge 2026 in Malaysia.
Siam first secured victory in the national round in Bangladesh, earning the opportunity to represent the country on the international stage of the competition.
The international competition was held on 25 September 2026 at Multimedia University (MMU) in Cyberjaya, Malaysia. Siam received the Gold Award on 26 September from Dr Haji Razmi bin Abdul Razak of the Malaysia Young Scientists Organisation (MYSO).
Siam participated with his research project titled “Decoding the Global Green Transition: AI-Based Measurement of Transition Narratives and Their Implications for Financial Stability.” The research looks at how countries move from green-transition commitments to actual implementation and examines its broader implications for financial stability.
Siam said the project was developed to understand the gap between what countries promise about the green transition and what is actually carried out, using an AI-based approach to study transition-related information.
“Winning the national round and then getting the opportunity to represent Bangladesh on the international stage was already a great honour for me. Receiving the Gold Award at the global competition is an incredibly meaningful recognition of our work. I hope this achievement encourages more young researchers from Bangladesh to take their ideas to international platforms,” he said.
The achievement marks an important milestone in Siam’s academic and research journey, taking his work from a national competition in Bangladesh to an international platform focused on sustainability and the Sustainable Development Goals.
His research is also connected with Sustainable Development Goal 13 (Climate Action), reflecting the growing importance of understanding the challenges surrounding the global transition towards a greener economy.
The recognition at the World Sustainability Goals Challenge 2026 has brought international attention to Siam’s research and his representation of Bangladesh at the competition, highlighting the participation of Bangladeshi students and young researchers in global sustainability initiatives.
