ISU fashion fiesta showcases students’ creativity and industry knowledge
International Standard University (ISU) held a day-long fashion fiesta at its Mohakhali campus to showcase students’ creativity and talent in fashion, apparel merchandising and textiles through competitions, presentations and a fashion show.
The ISU Merchandising Club, under the Department of Apparel Merchandising and Management, organised “Da Fit and Fashion Fiesta-2026”, featuring an industry-focused quiz, fashion mood board presentations and a ramp walk, according to the press release.
ISU Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Abdul Awal Khan attended as the chief guest. Treasurer Professor HTM Quader Newaz was the special guest, and Professor Md Abul Kashem, dean of the Faculty of Engineering and Technology, attended as the guest of honour.
Jaglul Hoque Mridha, associate professor and head of the Department of Apparel Merchandising and Management, presided over the event.
Speaking at the programme, Abul Kashem said the fashion show provided an important platform for students to demonstrate their creativity, confidence and talent.
He praised the participants’ creativity and presentation skills, saying their performances made it challenging to select the winners. He thanked the ISU Merchandising Club for inviting him to participate and judge, and congratulated all the contestants.
Jaglul Hoque Mridha said fashion shows and quiz competitions helped students develop creativity, knowledge and confidence while gaining practical insights into the textile and apparel industry.
He said the fashion show allowed students to present their designs and creative ideas, while the quiz strengthened their subject knowledge and ability to think on their feet.
He added that such initiatives would help prepare skilled, creative and confident graduates for the textile and apparel industry.
The opening segment, “Threads and Trivia”, featured a quiz on apparel merchandising, fashion and textiles, with 54 students participating. Alifa Akter Asha secured first place, followed by Adnan Mahmud in second and Mst Mafiya Khanom Mitu in third. The winners received certificates.
The next segment, “Story on a Board”, featured students’ creative fashion mood board presentations. Jemi Jahan secured first place, Sizmi second and Umme Habiba third.
The main attraction, “Echoes of Autumn Sky”, featured a fashion show and ramp walk involving 40 students. Muskan Hasan secured first place, Tanvir Ahmed second, and Nidhi Teresa Gomez third.
Afroza Haq Daizy, associate professor and head of the Department of Fashion Design and Technology at Shanto-Mariam University, served as the fashion show’s chief judge.
Special judges included Assistant Professor Lina Jahangir and Assistant Professor Md Shohel Anwar from the same department, and Md Hasibul Hasan, lecturer in the Department of Textile Engineering at ISU.
Jahirul Islam Apon, managing director of Apon Good Food Limited, and Md Moniruzzaman Badsha, managing director of Fiat Fashion Limited, also attended as special guests.
Winners received cash prizes, gifts, crests and certificates.
RISE, Moments, Fiat Fashion Limited, Apon Good Food Limited, Sixth Seasons, One Lifestyle Bangladesh and Riva Orango supported the event.
The organisers said the fiesta gave students a platform to develop creativity, confidence, presentation skills and talent. It also connected academic learning with the fashion and apparel industry while letting students demonstrate their capabilities.
