JU Research Society concludes first research methodology training course
Jahangirnagar University Research Society (JURS) has concluded its first three-month research methodology training course, with 137 participants from different academic disciplines and universities across Bangladesh completing the programme.
The closing ceremony was held at the Senate Hall of Jahangirnagar University in Savar, Dhaka, featuring research presentations and an award ceremony, according to a press release.
The course comprised 12 sessions led by university faculty members and covered research methodology, research design, conducting studies and developing innovative research ideas.
The programme was convened by Taimur Khan Turjo, co-convened by Samia Enam and coordinated by MST Samiha Akter Salma. JURS General Secretary Rayhan Kabir delivered the opening remarks, followed by presentations of research posters by participating teams.
In the poster competition, the champion team presented a project titled “Late HIV Diagnosis and Treatment Outcome in Bangladesh”. The team comprised Tasnova Taz Prapti of JU’s Pharmacy Department, Shougata Das Josh of NITOR, Md Abdul Kaium Sarkar of SAIAC College of Medical Science and Technology, Jemi Akter of JU’s Statistics and Data Science Department, and Prakriti Ghosh of National University.
The runner-up team presented “Enhancing Wound Healing in Diabetic Patients through Secondary Metabolites”. Its members were Nazmul Hossen Apurbo of JU, Raiyan Ahmed, Sadia Jaman, Morsheda Jahan and Shethyla Hasan of East West University.
Addressing the ceremony as chief guest, JU Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Md Nurul Islam emphasised the importance of research in improving university rankings and supporting national development. He reaffirmed the administration’s commitment to improving research quality and increasing budgetary support, encouraging students to contribute to the university’s international standing.
Pro-Vice-Chancellor for Education Professor Md Shamsul Alam highlighted the need for institutional support and further development of the research society.
Treasurer Professor Shohel Rana praised JURS for organising the programme despite budgetary constraints. He also proposed incorporating the society’s activities into the university’s official website and establishing a dedicated research subdomain.
The ceremony was presided over by JURS President Abu Rumman. Honorary crests were presented to distinguished guests, while participants received certificates.
JURS said the initiative aims to promote research excellence, encourage interdisciplinary collaboration and strengthen research capacity among young researchers at Jahangirnagar University and beyond.
