State University of Bangladesh (SUB) honoured Professor Dr MA Rashid, professor emeritus of the Department of Pharmaceutical Chemistry at Dhaka University, with its “Inspiring Teacher” award during a programme marking World Teachers’ Day 2026.

The award recognised his longstanding contributions to teaching, research and higher education, alongside his role in inspiring generations of students throughout his academic career, according to the press release.

The celebration began with a surprise for SUB faculty members, who arrived in the morning to find World Teachers’ Day greeting cards and flowers on their desks.

The gesture expressed respect and gratitude for their dedication to education and their contribution to shaping future generations.

The university also organised a discussion and recognition programme attended by Professor Dr Hasan Kausar, acting vice-chancellor; Professor Dr KS Sarwar Uddin Ahmed, pro-vice-chancellor-designate; the registrar; deans; department chairpersons; and faculty members.

During the discussion, the vice-chancellor, pro-vice-chancellor-designate, registrar and faculty representatives reflected on the significance of the teaching profession.

Speakers highlighted teachers’ role in imparting knowledge, nurturing values, inspiring students and preparing future generations to contribute meaningfully to society.

The presentation of the award to MA Rashid was a key highlight of the programme. Speakers praised his academic achievements, dedication to students, contributions to education and research, and lasting influence as an educator.

They said teachers’ responsibilities extended beyond the classroom to encouraging students to pursue their ambitions, strengthening their intellectual and ethical foundations, and guiding them towards becoming responsible individuals and professionals.

The university said the recognition reflected its commitment to celebrating educators whose contributions have a lasting impact on students and society.
