The Department of Media Studies and Journalism at the University of Liberal Arts Bangladesh (ULAB), in collaboration with education consultancy MACES, hosted a seminar on postgraduate study opportunities in the United Kingdom.

Titled “Explore Postgraduate Study Options in Media Studies and Journalism at Prestigious UK Universities”, the event took place at ULAB on Wednesday (14 October), connecting students and alumni with representatives of British universities, according to the press release.

Representatives from three UK universities led the interactive sessions: Tim Anderson, senior international recruitment officer at City St George’s, University of London; Isobel Hussey, senior international officer at the University of Sussex; and David Evans, regional manager at Cardiff University.

They briefed participants on admission pathways, academic rigour, scholarship opportunities and the cultural experience of pursuing media degrees in the UK.

ULAB Vice-Chancellor Professor Shamsad Mortuza highlighted the university’s emphasis on global exposure.

“Collaborations like this seminar are instrumental in providing our students with the pathways they need to excel on the international stage. We want our graduates to not just participate in the global media discourse, but to lead it,” he said.

Participants said direct interaction with university representatives helped them better understand the application process.

Raisa Islam, a final-year media studies and journalism student, said the session clarified specific scholarship opportunities, making the prospect of studying abroad a clearer and more achievable goal.

The seminar concluded with personalised question-and-answer sessions, helping prospective media professionals gain practical knowledge to advance their international academic pursuits.
