Formula 1 has announced a landmark 10-year agreement to bring the sport back to Africa, with the Formula 1 African Grand Prix, presented by Visit Rwanda, set to join the calendar in the early 2030s.

The agreement will mark F1’s first race on the African continent since 1993, following years of collaboration to establish the foundations for a sustainable, world-class Grand Prix.

The race will take place at a purpose-built circuit in Bugesera, Rwanda, developed to FIA Grade 1 standards as part of a wider sports, tourism and infrastructure project led by the Rwanda Development Board.

Located around 40 kilometres south of Kigali, near the new Kigali International Airport, the circuit will incorporate the area’s natural landscape and elevation changes to deliver a challenging racing experience and exceptional viewing opportunities for fans.
