Fardina Jerin Mim, an undergraduate student of the Department of Sociology at the University of Dhaka (DU), has secured first place in the nationwide ReFest Reels Challenge at Renewable Energy Fest 2026.

The short-form video competition was held at the Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (Buet) Central Playground, with participants exploring the theme “A Just, Inclusive and Green Energy Transition”.

The challenge used creative storytelling to raise awareness about renewable energy, sustainability and the need for an equitable transition to greener energy systems.

Mim’s achievement came during the second edition of Renewable Energy Fest, a three-day event jointly organised by ActionAid Bangladesh, Buet, the Just Energy Transition Network Bangladesh (JETnet-BD) and Buet’s Institute of Energy and Sustainable Development (IESD).

The festival was held in partnership with the Bangladesh Energy and Power Research Council (BEPRC), the Bangladesh Institute of International and Strategic Studies (BIISS), the Bangladesh Solar and Renewable Energy Association (BSREA), the Centre of Excellence for Climate Change Research (C3ER) and Oxfam in Bangladesh.

Mim’s achievement highlights the role of young people in promoting sustainability and raising awareness about the energy transition through digital creativity and visual storytelling.
