A student of Jahangirnagar University (JU) has developed an academic management web application to help students organise their class schedules, attendance, assignments, examination dates and academic records on a single platform.

Md Anowviar Hossain Akash, a 53rd-batch student of the Department of International Relations, developed the application, named ‘ClassOrbit 1.0’, drawing on his own experience of navigating academic responsibilities at the university.

Akash said he often struggled to keep track of attendance, course marks, class routines and examination schedules, with much of the necessary information scattered across Messenger groups and personal records. He developed the platform to bring these academic tasks together and reduce the time and effort required to manage them.

Initially intended to address his own difficulties, the initiative later expanded after Akash realised that his classmates faced similar challenges.

ClassOrbit allows students to monitor their attendance, record course marks and calculate their grade point average (GPA) and cumulative grade point average (CGPA). It also includes features such as class routines, an academic calendar, important notices, notifications and reminders.

The application has initially been designed for students of Akash’s batch in the Department of International Relations at JU.

“I want ClassOrbit to make academic life easier and more organised for the students in our batch and to genuinely help them stay aware of their progress,” Akash said.

He plans to expand the platform to other batches of the department, subject to available opportunities and resources.

Akash is also considering introducing features for teachers to share lecture slides, references, study materials and other academic resources directly with students. However, these plans are still under consideration.

ClassOrbit is currently available as a web application and has not yet been released on the Google Play Store. Built using Progressive Web App (PWA) technology, it can be accessed through a web browser and installed on supported devices.

Akash hopes to bring the application to the Play Store in the future. He is also planning an official launch event involving teachers and students of the department.

He said he aims to improve the platform based on users’ feedback and academic needs, with a focus on making it a practical tool for students’ everyday university lives.

What began as a personal effort to address academic management challenges has now evolved into an initiative aimed at making academic life more organised for his fellow students.
