Economics Career Alliance hosts workshop on cracking case competitions

The Economics Career Alliance (ECA) of the University of Dhaka organised a workshop titled “Cracking Case Competitions: Case It Like You Mean It” on 1 July at the Department of Economics. Tailored for freshers and early-year students, the session focused on developing foundational skills in business case competitions—a field that blends strategic thinking, data storytelling, and real-world problem-solving.
The keynote speaker was Maisha Islam Monamee, a member of Batch 29 at the Institute of Business Administration (IBA), University of Dhaka. Currently serving as Product and Finance Manager at Intelligent Machines Limited and a contributing journalist at The Daily Star, she recently won the HSBC Case Competition 2024 and BizMaestros 2024. Drawing from her international experience, she offered students an in-depth look into the nuances of competitive case-solving.

Her session introduced participants to key tools and frameworks such as MECE trees, root cause analysis, Porter’s Five Forces, and journey mapping. Emphasising the value of structured thinking, clear communication, and compelling storytelling, Ms Maisha provided a roadmap for tackling cases using both data-first and hypothesis-first approaches.
The workshop saw enthusiastic participation from students, particularly freshers, who engaged actively and gained confidence to explore similar opportunities in the future.
This initiative is part of ECA’s continued commitment to equipping economics students with practical, industry-relevant skills. The workshop stands as another step in preparing the next generation of economists and problem-solvers to take on real-world challenges with clarity and competence.
