Abul Monjur Khan appointed provost of BAU’s Shaheed Shamsul Haque Hall
Professor Dr Mohammed Abul Monjur Khan of the Department of Entomology has been appointed provost of Shaheed Shamsul Haque Hall at Bangladesh Agricultural University (BAU).
The appointment was announced through an office order signed by BAU Registrar Agriculturist Dr Md Halal Uddin on Thursday, according to a press release. He succeeds Professor Dr Md Abdul Awal of the Department of Crop Botany.
Abul Monjur formally assumed charge at a handover and farewell programme on Friday, 21 August. BAU Proctor Professor Dr Md Abdul Alim, Sonali Dal President Professor Dr Hammadur Rahman and General Secretary Professor Dr A.K.M. Adham attended the programme.
Speaking after taking charge, Abul Monjur said he had lived in the hall for six years as a student and knew its various aspects closely, making his appointment a matter of both pride and emotion.
He said he would work to implement suggestions for the hall’s development and make it more student-friendly and liveable. He also emphasised the importance of cooperation from students and other stakeholders in achieving these goals.
Abul Monjur previously served as a house tutor at Fazlul Haque Hall and Shahid Nazmul Ahsan Hall. Reflecting on his journey, he said assuming the role of provost 31 years after his student life marked a proud chapter in his career.
Outgoing Provost Professor Dr Md Abdul Awal expressed confidence that his successor would draw on his experience and wisdom to further develop the hall and complete ongoing initiatives.
