Safayet Zamil Nowshan, a student of the International Relations department of Chittagong University will join the United Nations Summit of The Future and UN General Assembly First Committee at New York.
Zamil has been working on child rights and human rights since his childhood. In 2023, he was selected as a youth advisor for UN Human Rights. As part of this role, he participated in the 25th EU NGO Forum in Belgium and the UN High-Level Event on the 75th Anniversary of the UDHR in Geneva, Switzerland. Currently, he is one of the 15 UN Youth Champions for Disarmament at the UN Office for Disarmament Affairs (UNODA), working toward global peace.
His experience in advocating for youth rights and roles has led to an invitation to the UN Summit of the Future this year. The Summit of the Future is one of the most important meetings of this decade, where world leaders will begin discussions on restructuring global governance.
“His participation in such a forum is a matter of great pride for both Chittagong University and Bangladesh,” reads a press release.
After the Summit of the Future, in October, he will participate in the UN General Assembly First Committee and speak on the involvement of youth in promoting global peace. He is the only Bangladeshi youth attending the UN General Assembly.
All his travel expenses are covered by the United Nations.
Nowshan has proudly represented Bangladesh in various international conferences across multiple countries. He is currently serving as an executive member of the Commonwealth Youth Peace Ambassadors Network(CYPAN), organising secretary of Youth Engagement for Sustainability Bangladesh and president of Chittagong Univercity Career Club(CUCC).
Safayet Zamil Nowshan is pursuing a master’s degree in International Relations at the University of Chittagong.
