Bangladesh announces squads for global, Asia-Pacific AI olympiads
Bangladesh Open Source Network has announced the national teams for the third International Artificial Intelligence Olympiad (IOAI) and the first Asia-Pacific Artificial Intelligence Olympiad (APOAI), following a three-month selection process.
The third International Artificial Intelligence Olympiad will be held in Kazakhstan in August, while the Asia-Pacific Artificial Intelligence Olympiad will be held online on 13 June.
The teams were selected by the organisers of the Bangladesh Artificial Intelligence Olympiad (BdAIO), led by Bangladesh Open Source Network, based on assessments at the national selection camp held from 20-23 May.
An eight-member team has been selected for the Asia-Pacific olympiad, while a four-member team has been named for the international round.
The eight-member Bangladesh team will take part in the Asia-Pacific Artificial Intelligence Olympiad online from a designated venue in Dhaka on 13 June.
The team members are Labib Shahriar of Homna Adarsha High School; Tridib Roy Arya and Mobtasim Chowdhury Priom of Notre Dame College, Dhaka; Saiduzzaman Araf of Moulvibazar Government College; Nawfel Rahman of Darus Salam Government Secondary School; Murtaza Abdullah of National Ideal School; Anannya Zarif Akand of Munno International School and College; and Md Riasat Islam of Rajuk Uttara Model College.
The four-member Bangladesh team for the International Artificial Intelligence Olympiad in Kazakhstan comprises Labib Shahriar of Homna Adarsha High School; Mobtasim Chowdhury Priom of Notre Dame College, Dhaka; Saiduzzaman Araf of Moulvibazar Government College; and Anannya Zarif Akand of Munno International School and College.
Professor Dr BM Mainul Hossain, team leader and Director of the Institute of Information Technology at the University of Dhaka, will accompany the Bangladesh team.
Registration for the third Bangladesh Artificial Intelligence Olympiad began on 25 March. Students from different parts of the country took part in the “AI Quiz” and “AI Challenge” categories.
For the first time, offline regional rounds were held in Dhaka, Chattogram and Saidpur. An online e-olympiad was also arranged for students from Khulna, Rajshahi and other regions.
After the regional rounds, the national round was held in Dhaka on 16 May.
The top 30 students selected from the “AI Challenge” category of the national round were invited to the national selection camp, where 25 students took part.
Participants at the camp were assessed through a machine learning contest, viva, Python notebook evaluation and selection test. The final teams were selected based on the results of these stages.
Bangladesh Open Source Network has been organising the olympiad regularly to help young students develop world-class skills in artificial intelligence and machine learning.
Bangladesh University of Business and Technology is the platinum sponsor and host of the national round, while Reve Chat is the powered-by partner.
