BURT

The BRAC University Response Team (BURT) organized Project Shonirvor 2.0 on 6 May 2026, continuing its efforts to support underprivileged communities through sustainable empowerment initiatives.

Held at the Alumni Lounge on Level-6 of BRAC University in collaboration with OCSAR, the programme focused on promoting self-reliance by providing sewing machines to three selected families.

Funded through contributions from BRAC University alumni and current BURT members, the initiative aimed to create long-term economic opportunities rather than short-term relief. Following field assessments conducted by BURT volunteers, three women were selected based on financial need and their potential to use the support for income-generating activities.

The handover ceremony was attended by the BRAC University Registrar, club adviser, Joint Director of Student Life, officials from the Office of Co-Curricular Activities (OCA), OCSAR representatives and alumni members. The sewing machines were formally handed over by the guests alongside BURT President and panel members.

Organizers said the sewing machines represent more than financial assistance for the recipient families, serving instead as a pathway toward dignity, independence and stability through tailoring and home-based entrepreneurship.

Speaking at the event, BURT President Shahriar Kabir Ayon said, “Project Shonirvor is all about believing in people, believing in their strength and their potential. When we place a sewing machine in someone’s hands, we are telling them that they are capable, that they are worthy, and that they do not have to face tomorrow alone.”

Through Project Shonirvor 2.0, BURT reaffirmed its commitment to addressing unemployment and promoting grassroots economic empowerment, aligning its efforts with Sustainable Development Goal 8 on decent work and economic growth.

The organization hopes to expand the initiative further in the coming years with continued support from students, alumni and university stakeholders.
