Team Bangladesh secures second consecutive bronze medal at International Biology Olympiad

Fayez Ahmed, a student from Rajshahi Government Laboratory High School, has won his second consecutive bronze medal at the 35th International Biology Olympiad (IBO) held this year in Astana, Kazakhstan. A total of 305 students from 81 countries participated in the Olympiad.

This year, Bangladesh’s four-member team was led by Soumitra Chakraborty, an international jury member and the General Secretary of the Bangladesh Biology Olympiad. The team included Fayez Ahmed from Rajshahi Government Laboratory High School, Raisa Fabiha Jannat from Chittagong Cantonment Public School, Ha-Mim Rahman from St Joseph Higher Secondary School, and Swapna Mondol from Ideal School and College.

IBO is renowned worldwide for bringing together top high school biology students to compete in both theoretical and practical exams.

To prepare the Bangladesh team for the International Biology Olympiad, 11 regional competitions were organised across the country. The winners from these regional rounds then competed in the national round. The top four students represented Bangladesh in the 35th edition of the IBO.
