Comilla University (CoU) will remain closed for 23 days on the occasion of Ramadan, Shab-e-Qadr, Eid-ul-Fitr and Independence Day (Bangladesh), according to the university’s academic calendar.

All classes will remain officially suspended from 8 March to 26 March. Including weekly holidays, the total vacation period will amount to 23 days.

The matter was confirmed on Wednesday (5 March) by the university’s Registrar (Acting), Dr Mohammad Anwar Hossain.

According to the academic calendar, 6–7 March and 27–28 March fall on weekly holidays (Friday and Saturday), effectively extending the break and allowing students additional days off.

“According to the academic calendar, the university will remain closed from 8 March to 26 March,” said Registrar (Acting) Dr Mohammad Anwar Hossain. “The holiday has been scheduled in observance of Shab-e-Qadr, Jumuatul Wida, Eid-ul-Fitr and Independence Day. Academic and administrative activities will resume after the break as per the calendar.”

Meanwhile, residential halls have issued separate notices regarding the holiday period. According to a notice from Bijoy-24 Hall, the hall will remain closed from 8 March to 26 March and will reopen for students from 10:00am on 27 March.

Students who need to enter or stay in the hall during the vacation for special reasons must record their name and purpose in the register kept at the hall gate, the notice said.

University transport services will also remain suspended during the holiday period, sources from the transport pool confirmed.

Assistant Registrar of the transport pool, Md Mosharraf Hossain Bhuiyan, said, “Bus services will remain closed as the university goes on vacation. However, transport services will operate on 26 March marking Independence Day.”
