DU hosts workshop on underwater photography, scuba diving
A day-long workshop on underwater photography and scuba diving was held at Dhaka University yesterday, 13 May.
Initiated by the university’s Television, Film and Photography (TFP) Department, the workshop was organised by Creative Wings in collaboration with the TFP Photography Club.
The sessions were conducted by Creative Wings founder and underwater photographer Abir Mallik, alongside dive master and underwater photographer Sharif Sarwar.
Participants were introduced to the technical aspects of underwater still photography, as well as the fundamentals of professional scuba diving.

A total of 100 students took part in the workshop. Of them, 80 attended the theoretical sessions, while 20 received hands-on practical training underwater.
Speaking at the end of the programme, Abir Mallik said the enthusiasm shown by the trainee students in learning such an adventurous and specialised field was highly encouraging. He noted that opportunities for underwater photography in Bangladesh are gradually expanding and expressed hope that young talents would lead the sector in the future.
TFP Department Chairperson Saiyeed Shahjada Al Kareem said the initiative aimed to equip students with modern technical skills beyond conventional photography. He added that underwater photography is a promising field globally and that the workshop would open up new professional opportunities for participants.
Certificates of appreciation were presented to Abir Mallik and Sharif Sarwar by the TFP Photography Club in recognition of their successful conduct of the workshop.
