DU Treasurer Conducts a 2-Hour Masterclass on Research Proposal Development at DURS

A special masterclass titled “Research proposal development: basic to advanced” was organised by the Dhaka University Research Society (DURS).

The session was held on Sunday, 17 May 2026, at the R.C. Majumdar Auditorium of the University of Dhaka. The masterclass was conducted by Professor Dr. M. Jahangir Alam Chowdhury, Treasurer of the University of Dhaka, Professor in the Department of Finance, and Executive Director of the Centre for Microfinance and Development.

Research-enthusiastic students from various departments and institutes of the university, alongside young researchers and early-career professionals, participated in the session with the aim of strengthening their skills in research proposal writing and academic research development.

The masterclass covered the full process of developing a research proposal, progressing from fundamental concepts to advanced-level strategies. Participants received detailed guidance on identifying research problems, formulating objectives and research questions, conducting literature reviews, selecting appropriate research methodologies, data collection techniques, academic writing standards, and effective proposal presentation.

During the session, Professor Chowdhury shared practical insights into preparing strong and competitive research proposals for academic, institutional, and professional purposes. He also emphasised the importance of originality, research ethics, critical thinking, and evidence-based research in higher education and policymaking.

The programme featured interactive discussions and question-and-answer segments, during which participants raised research-related challenges and discussed real-life academic experiences. The session fostered an engaging and motivating learning environment for aspiring researchers and students, contributing positively to academic excellence and professional research development.

At the conclusion of the session, a token of appreciation and an indoor plant were presented to Professor Chowdhury by Johir Rayhan, one of the moderators and a lecturer in the Department of Banking and Insurance, along with the organisation’s President, Humayra Anjir. The programme was hosted by Sadia Islam, while session coordination was carried out by Shaker Hossain Ifaz, an Executive Member of the organisation.
