BloodBridge, in collaboration with the Bangladesh Thalassemia Samity and the Bangladesh Thalassemia Foundation, is set to organise Thalassemia Awareness Week 2025 from 11 to 14 August at Independent University, Bangladesh (IUB).

The student-led campaign seeks to engage university students aged 18 to 30 in developing innovative and actionable strategies to raise awareness about thalassemia—an inherited blood disorder that is preventable through timely screening and informed decisions.

Thalassemia Awareness Week will feature a series of events designed to educate, mobilise and inspire youth involvement. Key segments include an ad-making contest titled “2 Minutes to Move a Nation,” where individuals or teams of up to three will produce short, emotive videos to promote blood donation and genetic screening.

A blood donation campaign, “Connect for Life,” will offer students the opportunity to donate blood for thalassemia patients. Free blood grouping and thalassemia carrier screening will also be provided, alongside networking sessions with healthcare professionals.

Participants will also take part in a poster presentation segment, “Awareness in Art,” inviting creative handmade poster submissions focused on early screening, technology, and community support. Additionally, a quiz competition titled “Bridge the Gap: Tech & Awareness for a Thalassemia-Free Tomorrow” will challenge undergraduate students on their knowledge of thalassemia and public health innovation.

BloodBridge aims to use this campaign as a platform to encourage long-term awareness, empathy, and collaboration in the fight against thalassemia. The initiative also promotes the use of education, technology, and student-led solutions in addressing broader public health challenges.

The deadline for registration is 2 August 2025. Interested participants can register and access the rulebook at www.bloodbridge.org.
