A robotics team from the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering at Independent University, Bangladesh (IUB) has been crowned champion of the Funny Robot Making Hackathon organised by Robo Tech Valley.

The winners were announced after several months of testing and observation of the participating robots, with the official prize-giving ceremony held in Dhaka on 4 October, 2026, according to the press release.

The hackathon took place in December 2025. Following an initial selection process, 20 teams participated in the three-day competition.

Teams were required to design and build robots capable of moving, producing programmed effects and interacting with audiences.

IUB’s Team Vhuter Raja comprised team leader Kallyen Kumar Tirtho and members Ankit Roy, Kazi Shafin Al-Fee, Md Arifin Hossain and Md Sadman Bhuyian Sami. Professor Dr Feroz Ahmed supervised the team.

Suvarnagrama Amusement Park & Resorts in Narayanganj sponsored the competition, which had a total prize pool of Tk1 lakh.

Team Vhuter Raja built its robot using programmable logic controllers, pneumatic cylinders and industrial-grade materials. The system was designed to perform programmed movements and operate in an amusement park environment.

Following the hackathon, the robot underwent several months of on-site testing and observation at the sponsoring amusement park.

The tests evaluated its operation and durability under continuous use in an active amusement park setting.

The robot is now installed at the resort as a permanent attraction for visitors.
