Metropolitan University, Sylhet, in collaboration with Cambridge University Press & Assessment, recently hosted a programme titled “From Curriculum to Career: Aligning English Communication Skills with Career Success”.

The event brought together academic leaders, industry professionals, faculty members and students to discuss ways to bridge the gap between higher education and workplace communication demands.

Dr Sangeeta Mehta, regional head of English at Cambridge University Press & Assessment, and Md Bodruddoza, business development manager for English at Cambridge University Press & Assessment, attended the event.

Sylhet International University Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Md Ashraful Alam and Metropolitan University Pro-Vice-Chancellor Professor Md Ishrat Ibne Ismail were also present.

Shahrin Fardous of Shahjalal University of Science and Technology and Dr Ahmed Nafee of Queens Hospital also took part in the roundtable discussion.

Speakers highlighted the growing importance of effective English communication skills in building successful careers.

They stressed the need to integrate practical training and structured assessment frameworks into university curricula.

“Stronger alignment between academic instruction and workplace communication needs will better equip graduates for both local and international opportunities,” said a panellist.

The programme was coordinated by Syed Nakib Sadi, assistant professor and proctor of the Department of English at Metropolitan University.

It was hosted by Md Abu Yousuf Musa, lecturer in the same department.

Metropolitan University Treasurer Professor Dr Md Taher Billal Khalifa opened the session by underscoring the importance of academic-industry collaboration.

Md Bodruddoza described the initiative as “a significant milestone in strengthening partnerships between academia and global education providers”.
