National University and Bangla Academy have initiated a joint publishing agreement to produce, print, publish and market quality textbooks, translated works and other important publications.

Representatives of the two institutions discussed the proposed memorandum of understanding at a meeting at the Shaheed Munier Chowdhury Conference Room of Bangla Academy in the capital today (24 August).

National University Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr ASM Amanullah, Pro-Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Mohammad Ali Jinnah and Bangla Academy Director General Professor Mohammad Azam attended the meeting.

The discussions focused on jointly publishing quality textbooks, translated works and other publications under a co-publication initiative. The two institutions also decided to collaborate on printing and marketing the books.

“Ensuring quality and reliable textbooks for National University students is one of our key responsibilities,” Professor Amanullah said.

“Working with a national institution such as Bangla Academy will allow us to publish better textbooks, translated works and research-oriented books suited to our students’ needs,” he added.

The vice-chancellor said the partnership would create opportunities to enrich scholarship and research in Bangla.

“We hope the partnership will not remain limited to publishing. The two institutions will also work together in different areas of education, research and knowledge creation in the future,” he said.

Participants expressed hope that the initiative would strengthen ties between the institutions and gradually broaden their cooperation in education, research and publishing.

National University Registrar Molla Mahfuz Al-Hosen; Director of Publication and Marketing Dr Faruk Ahammad; Associate Professor of English Syed Afzal Hossain; Communications Expert Gautam Barua; and Multi-Language Learning Institute Coordinator Md Saiful Islam Shaheen were also present.
