Members of Remians Cultural Club on Thursday (21 May) observed a candlelight protest from their respective hometowns and localities in response to recent incidents of rape, sexual violence and abuse against women and children across the country.

As the organisation’s members are currently spending the Eid holidays in different regions of Bangladesh, they took part in the symbolic protest individually by lighting candles and sharing messages promoting humanity, awareness and social responsibility.

The initiative was inspired by several recent incidents involving women and children that have deeply affected public conscience and intensified discussions surrounding the safety and dignity of women and children in society.

Through the peaceful demonstration, the organisation sought to express solidarity with victims and emphasise the importance of collective social awareness and moral responsibility in addressing violence and protecting vulnerable members of society.

Speaking on the occasion, Nahiyan Zaman Sammo, President of Remians Cultural Club, said, “A single candle may seem small, but together these lights become a symbol of resistance against darkness, fear and inhumanity.”

Representatives of the organisation noted that cultural organisations hold responsibilities that extend beyond artistic activities and entertainment. They said culture also represents empathy, ethical consciousness and the courage to stand beside humanity during difficult times.

The organisation further emphasised the importance of building a society where every child can experience a safe childhood and every woman can live with dignity, security and respect.

Remians Cultural Club reaffirmed its commitment to continuing constructive cultural and social initiatives aimed at encouraging awareness, compassion and positive values among young people.
