Stamford University Bangladesh has organised two workshops for students and faculty members focusing on artificial intelligence, emerging global business trends and contemporary research practices.

The Department of Business Administration held a Student Development Workshop in the morning and a Faculty Development Workshop in the afternoon on Thursday (27 August), according to a press release.

University of South Carolina Upstate Associate Professor Dr Sirajul Arefin Shibly delivered the keynote presentations at both sessions. He teaches at the university’s George Dean Johnson Jr College of Business and Economics in the United States.

Stamford University Bangladesh Board of Trustees Chairman Professor Dr Farahnaaz Feroz welcomed the department’s initiative to promote academic development and strengthen international research collaboration.

Faculty of Business Studies Dean Professor Dr Mohammad Jeaul Hasan led the organisation of the workshops.

The morning session, titled “AI in Business – The Must, The Myth, and The Monster”, was held at the university auditorium.

Marketing Discipline Associate Professor and Head Mohammad Nazmul Huq delivered the welcome address, while Registrar Muhammad Abdul Matin gave a special address.

In his keynote presentation, Shibly discussed how generative and predictive AI were reshaping business operations and decision-making.

He highlighted practical applications of AI and addressed misconceptions about the technology replacing human workers.

Shibly also discussed challenges associated with the rapid adoption of AI, including data security, responsible technology use and the growing capabilities of autonomous AI agents.

HRM Discipline Assistant Professor Nusrat Fatema conducted the session, while Marketing Discipline Assistant Professor Mustari Alam delivered the vote of thanks.

The session concluded with an interactive question-and-answer segment.

The afternoon Faculty Development Workshop, titled “Trends and Turbulences in Business Research”, was held in the university’s conference room.

Stamford University Bangladesh Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Sharif Nafe As-Saber delivered the opening remarks.

He highlighted the role of academic workshops in keeping faculty members informed about emerging global trends in business research.

Shibly discussed growing research areas, including AI-driven automation, environmental, social and governance sustainability, and hybrid working models.

He also highlighted evolving research methods, including data-driven bibliometric approaches and the use of mixed datasets. His presentation addressed challenges researchers face when seeking publication in leading academic journals.

HRM Discipline Assistant Professor Faria Kabir conducted the session, while Accounting Discipline Assistant Professor Eti Laila Kazi delivered the vote of thanks.

A six-member committee coordinated the workshops, with Mohammad Nazmul serving as convener and HRM Discipline Assistant Professor and Head Md Golam Rabbani as co-convener.

The other committee members were Eti Laila, Md Moniruzzaman, Mohammed Jaynal Abedin and Mustari.

The workshops formed part of the department’s efforts to connect academic learning and research with technological transformation, changing global business practices and international scholarly perspectives.
