Uttara University concludes largest-ever VC Sports Week
Uttara University has concluded its week-long inter-departmental sports competition, VC Sports Week 2026, the largest sports event in the university’s history.
The event officially concluded on 3 August 2026 with a prize-giving ceremony followed by a cultural evening.
Dedicated to Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Eaysmin Ara Lekha in recognition of her support for promoting leadership, integrity and physical wellbeing among students, the competition was organised by Uttara University Sports Club under the Office of Student Affairs.
The tournament began on 27 July and featured 540 student-athletes from various academic departments competing in six disciplines: cricket, football, badminton, chess, carrom and table tennis.
The closing ceremony was attended by Professor Dr Eaysmin Ara Lekha, members of the Board of Trustees and university officials. Deans of various faculties, department heads, faculty members, administrative staff and students were also present to encourage the participants.
During the ceremony, the Vice-Chancellor and invited guests presented trophies, medals and certificates to the champions, runners-up and top individual performers in the different events.
Congratulating the participants, Professor Dr Eaysmin Ara Lekha said, “Sports is not just about winning or losing on the field; it teaches discipline, leadership, resilience and mutual respect among our students. Going beyond textbooks and classrooms, achieving physical fitness and mental growth is what shapes a student into a responsible citizen for the future. The spirit with which every student participated and competed with honesty in this event is our biggest success.”
Following the prize distribution, the university hosted a cultural programme featuring musical performances by its students.
The highlight of the evening was a live concert by youth music bands Encore and Eden’s Garden. Their performances created a festive atmosphere for faculty members, officials and students.
The university reaffirmed its commitment to organising sports and other co-curricular initiatives to support students’ overall development and promote an active campus life beyond the classroom.
