Youth-led innovation takes centre stage at Amal Foundation Climate Hackathon
Five exceptional climate projects have been selected at the Climate Hackathon 2026, highlighting the growing role of youth-led innovation in addressing environmental challenges in Bangladesh. The event was organised by the Amal Foundation and held at Hotel Sea Moon in Cox’s Bazar.
The high-stakes hackathon brought together 30 climate fellows from universities across Bangladesh. Following a rigorous pitching and evaluation process before an expert panel, five standout projects were selected based on their innovation, scalability and potential to strengthen grassroots climate resilience.
Students from the University of Dhaka played a leading role in the cohort, contributing to multiple winning initiatives. The selected fellows and their academic institutions are as follows: Mahfuza Amir Ela and Nawsin Fatmi from the University of Dhaka; Tajrean Alam Nili from the University of Dhaka; Kathy Diba Rema from the University of Dhaka; Khadiza Tul Khushbu from Jahangirnagar University alongside Sheikh Fatema Prerona from Independent University, Bangladesh; and Sadia Zaman Arshi from Khulna University alongside Atoshi Karim from the University of Dhaka.
The projects address key dimensions of Bangladesh’s growing environmental challenges, marking a shift from environmental advocacy towards practical and measurable adaptation strategies.
The event brought together government representatives, local and international non-governmental organisations, journalists and environmental enthusiasts, creating a platform to showcase the next generation of climate leaders.
