No engineering cluster this year as KUET, CUET opt for separate admission tests

The engineering cluster admission system is officially coming to an end for the 2024–25 academic session, as Chittagong University of Engineering and Technology (CUET) and Khulna University of Engineering and Technology (KUET) have decided to hold their admission tests independently.

According to a decision made in CUET’s 155th academic council meeting, the admission tests are scheduled to take place on either 24 or 25 January next year.

Earlier, Khulna University of Engineering and Technology (KUET), a member of the engineering cluster, announced its own admission test date, with Rajshahi University of Engineering and Technology (RUET) also deciding to conduct separate tests.

CUET’s announcement effectively signals the dissolution of the cluster admission test arrangement for public engineering universities. This means the cluster admission test for the 2024–25 session will no longer take place.

The initiative, which started during the 2021–22 academic session, lasted for only three years.

KUET was the first to publish an admission notice for first-year undergraduate programmes on 18 November. Its written test will take place on 11 January from 9:30 AM to 12:30 PM, followed by a freehand drawing test from 12:45 PM to 1:45 PM.

RUET has tentatively scheduled its first-year admission test for 8 February, as per a decision made on 20 November.

Since the 2021–22 academic session, admission tests for CUET, KUET, and RUET were conducted jointly under the engineering cluster system. The arrangement continued through the 2022–23 and 2023–24 sessions. However, CUET’s recent decision marks the end of this collaborative approach.
