RUET admission test: Available seats and exam procedure

The Rajshahi University of Engineering and Technology (RUET) is now accepting online applications for admission to the 2024–25 academic year. The application process will remain open until 14 January at midnight, as per information available on the RUET website.

Application timeline
According to the official notice, students may apply between 4 and 14 January. The preliminary (MCQ) exam will take place on 8 February, while the written exam will be held on 20 February.

Independent admission test
This year, RUET is conducting its own admission test, having opted out of the cluster system.
Eligibility criteria
For SSC and HSC candidates:
• SSC or equivalent: Applicants must have passed in 2021 or 2022 with a minimum GPA of 4.00 or an equivalent grade.
• HSC or equivalent: Applicants must have passed in 2024, achieving a minimum GPA of 4.00 in Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, and English, with a total GPA of 18.00 across these subjects.
For GCE (O-Level and A-Level) candidates:
• O-Level: A minimum of ‘B’ grades in five subjects.
• A-Level: A minimum of ‘B’ grades in Mathematics, Physics, and Chemistry.
• The A-Level certificate must have been issued in November 2023 or later.

Selection Process
A merit list will be prepared based on the total grades achieved in Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, and English in HSC or equivalent exams. If the number of applicants exceeds available slots, the top 24,000 candidates will be invited to participate in the preliminary (MCQ) exam. In the case of a tie at the 24,000th position, candidates will be prioritised based on their grades in Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, and English, in that order.
Eligible candidates will then sit for the written exam, which will be divided into up to three shifts, depending on the number of applicants. The results will be adjusted proportionally to ensure fairness across shifts. The list of candidates eligible for the written exam will be published on the RUET website on 13 February.

There are a total of 1,235 seats, including 5 reserved seats, across 14 departments in the Faculties of Civil, Electrical & Computer, and Mechanical Engineering.
• Group A: Includes all Engineering departments and the Urban & Regional Planning department.
• Group B: Includes all Engineering departments, the Urban & Regional Planning department, and the Architecture department.
