Paramount Pictures has announced that its long-awaited film adaptation of “Call of Duty” will hit theatres on 30 June 2028.
The announcement came during the studio’s presentation at CinemaCon, where it confirmed that Pete Berg will direct the film from a script by Taylor Sheridan, reports Variety.
“Taylor and I are both deeply connected to the special ops community,” Berg said in a video message to theatre owners, adding that the film will focus on authenticity while also delivering large-scale action. He noted the goal is to portray elite soldiers “on a human level, but also bring amazing scale.”
The hugely popular franchise, developed by Activision and now owned by Microsoft, has amassed over 1 billion players and generated around $35 billion in lifetime revenue since its debut in 2003.
Plot details and casting for the film have not yet been disclosed. The original game series is known for its first-person shooter gameplay and military-themed storytelling.
Paramount has previously found success adapting video games into films, including the “Sonic the Hedgehog” franchise. The studio is reportedly exploring the potential to expand “Call of Duty” into a broader cinematic and television universe.
Recent successes like “The Super Mario Bros. Movie” and “A Minecraft Movie” highlight the growing momentum of video game adaptations in Hollywood.
