Powerpuff girls

Sugar, spice, and a fresh dose of Chemical X are brewing at Warner Bros Pictures Animation. The studio is currently developing a brand-new animated ‘Powerpuff Girls’ movie, looking to bring the iconic, crime-fighting trio back to the cinema.

The project was teased on Monday during the Annecy International Animation Film Festival in France. However, studio insiders have clarified that the film is still in its very early stages. Without an official greenlight or a locked-in deal, plot details surrounding the girls’ next mission to save Townsville remain tightly under wraps.

Originally premiering on Cartoon Network in 1998, the beloved series dominated children’s television until 2005. But the franchise has had a rocky history with adaptations. A 2002 theatrical feature completely flopped at the box office, pulling in just $16 million against an $11 million budget. Later attempts, including a 2016 animated reboot and a famously scrapped live-action pilot, struggled to recapture the magic of the original run.

The upcoming film joins a busy pipeline for the animation studio, which is currently gearing up to release ‘The Cat in the Hat’ this November, with future projects like ‘Bad Fairies’ and ‘Margie Claus’ slated for 2027 and beyond.
