A sequel to “The Adventures of Tintin” is finally moving forward, with acclaimed filmmaker Peter Jackson recently confirming at the 2026 Cannes Film Festival that he is actively writing the script, according to media reports.

The original film, directed by Steven Spielberg and released in 2011, adapted the famous comic adventures created by Belgian artist Hergé.

It earned praise for its groundbreaking motion-capture animation, energetic action sequences, and faithful recreation of the beloved comic world.

Speaking during a Cannes masterclass, Jackson revealed that the sequel has always been part of an agreement between himself and Spielberg.

Actors Jamie Bell and Andy Serkis are expected to return as Tintin and Captain Haddock, respectively, although casting agreements have not yet been finalised.

Film analysts believe the sequel could benefit from renewed nostalgia for animated adventure franchises and growing international appreciation for Hergé’s comics.

The first movie performed strongly in Europe and international markets but had weaker box office results in the US.

No official release date has been announced, with Jackson saying production will begin after his current commitments, including involvement with “The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum.”
