Eligibility criteria
To be eligible for the University of Stuttgart Scholarships, applicants must:

  • Expect to graduate from the University of Stuttgart.
  • Have good academic grades.

  • Not be receiving any other German or foreign scholarships at the time of application.

Financial benefits
The scholarship covers the following expenses:

Note: Selected candidates are required to pay a social and administrative fee of €170 per semester from their stipend.

Working while studying
Due to the demanding academic workload, it is not encouraged to finance studies solely through work.

  • EU citizens: Can work in Germany without restrictions, just like German nationals.
  • Non-EU citizens: Will receive a restricted work permit, which must be explicitly stated in their passport. Ensure that your residence permit includes this work authorisation.

Health and personal insurance

  • Health insurance: All degree students and non-EU exchange students must have compulsory student health insurance as per German law. EU students with a European Health Insurance Card (EHIC) are exempt, provided they do not work in Germany.
  • Personal liability insurance (Haftpflichtversicherung): While not mandatory, it is highly recommended. It covers liability for injuries to others or damage to property, including rental apartments, laboratories, university buildings, and even lost keys. Policies typically cost between €30 to €80 per year, depending on family status.
