11 out of 28 holidays lost to weekends in 2026
Out of the 28 government holidays approved for 2026, 11 will fall on weekends, significantly cutting down the number of effective days off for government employees.
The issue came to light following the 47th meeting of the Council of Advisers, chaired by Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus at the Chief Adviser’s Office (CAO) yesterday (6 November).
At a press briefing held at the Foreign Service Academy, Chief Adviser’s Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam said that while 28 holidays have been approved 14 general and 14 by executive order 11 of which coincide with Fridays and Saturdays, leaving officials with only 17 actual holidays next year.
