Audemars Piguet and Swatch turn the Royal Oak into a pop-art pocket watch
Swatch and Audemars Piguet have officially revealed their first joint timepiece: the Royal Pop, a playful and unexpected reinterpretation of the classic Royal Oak design blended with Swatch’s Pop watch ethos.
Rather than a traditional wristwatch as many had speculated, the Royal Pop is a modular 40 mm pocket watch made from Swatch’s trademark Bioceramic material. It takes visual cues from Audemars Piguet’s Royal Oak, including an eight-sided case, and combines them with the fun, vibrant style of Swatch’s original POP concept.
There are eight colourways in total. Six are in the “Lépine” style with the crown at 12 o’clock; these include the pink and red Otto Rosso, the bright Huit Blanc, contrasting greens in the Green Eight, near-luminous Blaue Acht, deep tones in Ocho Negro, and the bold Orenji Hachi. The remaining two are “Savonnette” style pocket watches, Làn Ba and the multi-coloured OTG ROZ, with crowns at the 3 o’clock position and a small seconds sub-dial.
Part of the Royal Pop’s charm is its modularity: the pocket watch cases snap into interchangeable frames and come with calfskin lanyards that match each colourway, and the total diameter expands to about 53.2 mm when clipped in. Despite this, the watch remains a slim 8.4 mm thick and retains practical water resistance up to 20 m.
Inside each Royal Pop beats a manually wound SISTEM51 movement with about 90 hours of power reserve, visible through a transparent back decorated with pop-art style motifs.
The Royal Pop launches in-store on 16 May 2026 at select Swatch boutiques worldwide. Like previous Swatch collaborations, availability is limited: one watch per person, per day, at each location. US pricing starts around $400 for the Lépine versions and $420 for the Savonnette models.
