Begum Rokeya University (BRUR) has renamed two of its residential halls following student requests. The decision was made during the university syndicate’s 110th meeting on Saturday (8 February) and later announced by Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Md Showkat Ali in a press briefing.
As per the new names, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Hall has been renamed Bijoy 24 Hall, while Bangamata Sheikh Fazilatunnesa Mujib Hall is now Shaheed Felani Hall.
Additionally, the university has decided to commemorate Shaheed Abu Sayeed Day annually on 16 July to honour his role in the anti-discrimination movement. On this day, academic activities will be suspended, but administrative operations will continue. A seven-day book fair in February, named after Abu Sayeed, will also be organised each year.
Moreover, the university has announced a waiver on all fees for students injured during the July Movement.
The syndicate meeting was presided over by Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Md Showkat Ali, with other members in attendance.
